Once upon a time...
La Fonciere is a beautiful old lady of a house. I have the history of this house dating from before 1680 when it was originally two houses. The two houses were combined and a thorough makeover in the early 1700's created the house that now is. In the early 1900's an amateur historian researched the history of the house and I am privileged to have a copy of this history which lists every owner from 1680 until the owners previous to me. I guess I am just the next on the list and I hope that just as I consider the lives of those who lived here before me, perhaps many years down the line my life here might also be considered by the next occupants.
La Fonciere is not a hotel, it is a home...it has always been a home...but it is a home with space to share with people who are passing through, people who will enjoy being exposed to such a beautiful and historic property...Like any old lady she shows her age and I wouldn't have it any other way. If this is for you then 'bienvenue' as we say in France. If you are looking for the ordinary, and the modernised then maybe this is not the place for you. Trying to restore and expose the beauty of this house has been a labour of love over the last five years I am still not finished and I probably never will be!
